Description
Ottica Randazzo became a landmark on Palermo's main shopping street when it opened in 1960. Today, these ceiling lights are all that remains of Ottica Randazzo, a shop that blended the warmth of a domestic interior with the drama of an exhibition, incorporating experiential elements that encouraged and rewarded the act of looking. Studio BBPR, founded in 1932, is known for its architectural icons. The custom-designed ceiling lights were a distinctive element of the interiors and exteriors of Ottica Randazzo. Handmade by Piero Frigerio and Aldo Galimberti, the lights not only created a luminous environment but their geometry conveyed the essence of Studio BBPR's rationalism. Despite subsequent renovations that removed many of the original features, the ceiling lights remain a symbol of the sophisticated and functional design of this historic store. These ceiling lights represent all that remains of the iconic Ottica Randazzo, a shop that represented the pinnacle of post-war Italian design and a beloved landmark in Palermo's urban landscape.
