Description

Hand-knotted Persian rug, produced by the nomadic Afshary tribe in the Fars plateau, a locality in central Persia. The dimensions are 175x142 cm. The rug is made with a wool pile on a cotton warp, with a tight knot and very stable colors that guarantee its durability over time. It has a slight defect on one side, in particular in the fringe, which is slightly more worn than the other. The production of this rug probably dates back to the early 20th century. The rug is mentioned in the volume Tappeti d'Oriente by Armen E.Han Geldian (publisher Vallardi, 1963, reprinted in 1970, pages 169 of 337).
