Porcelain plate with Basquiat reproduction

Rare collector's plate in Limoges porcelain, produced by Ligne Blanche for the Jean Michel Basquiat Foundation, part of a series reproducing works by the New York painter. This is titled “all colored cast 1” (1982) and no longer in production. Jean Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) is an artist who made himself known on the walls of Lower Manhattan with cryptic writings and aphorisms under the pseudonym SAMO. He supported himself by selling postcards featuring his graffiti. One of these, purchased by Andy Warhol, marked the turning point in his life. Shortly afterwards Basquiat will enter the Factory of the king of Pop Art and within a few years he will become, with his neo-expressionist works (made of primitive signs, figures and erased words) the true child prodigy of American art. He died in 1988 from an overdose. Today his works are sold for stellar sums.
