Description
Gerrit Thomas Rietveld's Red and Blue Chair is an iconic work of Neoplasticism, the result of the geometric and rational approach of the Dutch De Stijl movement, promoted in 1917. Made in 1918, the chair expresses the philosophy of research into the essential nature of things and the harmonious use of colors, influenced by Piet Mondrian. Initially known as the Slat Chair, the name changed to Red and Blue to reflect the chromatic separation of the construction parts, with the blue seat and red backrest, while the beech frame is black with yellow or white details. The chair is constructed with wooden joints and dowels and shows signs of wear consistent with age and use, as documented in the images.
