Davenport burl walnut writing desk (19th century)

Elegant Davenport burl walnut secretaire, made in England in the first half of the 19th century. Characterized by refined workmanship, it has four functional drawers on the right side, while on the left side the drawers are purely decorative. The support surface is covered in non-contemporary burgundy leather and, when lifted, reveals an internal compartment with three drawers and three compartments, entirely covered in maple. In the upper part there is a compartment originally intended to contain writing instruments, such as pens and ink, surmounted by a carved wooden railing supported on the shelf by small iron pins. The restoration work included conservative cleaning and polishing, as well as the replacement of four drawer knobs that were damaged. The secretaire is in excellent condition, with normal signs of age and use. Dimensions: H 90 x W 54 x D 57 cm.
