Description
In September 1977, "Poltronova" of Agliana (PT) celebrated 20 years of its activity born thanks to the intuitions of its founder Sergio Cammilli, an artist and courageous man of one of the historical leaders of Italian design. Says PierCarlo Santini in the book "Fare mobii con" " ...there occurs in Agliana what happens here and there in many Italian centers, where on strains of traditions of proven craftsmanship, in the service, however, of tired and passive reproductive operations, authentic needs for renewal and creativity are grafted. That craftsmanship, differently intended and innervated with vital themes, becomes a means and a valuable contribution not only in the technological arena, but in order to precisely formal functions and meaningsIn 1957, Cammilli has behind him attendance at the Florence Art Institute where he practiced sculpture." He sensed the change taking place. He goes on to say, "The period from 1960 to 1965-the period when the Game Table was produced-is an exciting time for Cammilli. He recalls, "I was not a company man who would take a design from an architect's office and bring it to the workshop for execution. The design, once in Agliana was examined sifted and many times completely redone...You could see the piece being born through making, unmaking, adjusting, raising, lowering..." It was in this climate that the very rare game table - T.P.G. 86, a design by U.S.P. Ufficio Studi e Progetti of Poltronova, produced between 1960 and 1969 and attributable to Sergio Cammilli, was born. It has square-section legs made of solid wood of essence similar to rosewood that "pierce" the top, designed removable and reversible suitable for both play and daily use, which, on the play side is covered in moss green cloth, while on the daily use side is veneered in essence similar to rosewood. Two exposed, socket-head screws connect the four legs to the deep solid wood frame that forms the empty volume where playing cards, chess, etc., or other board games can be stored when the table is not being used for gaming. Condition: The product is display and is in very good condition overall with a few small marks on the legs while the top is perfect. The original green cloth covered top has discoloration due to time and irradiation in the display case.
